Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Steno app (hereby referred to as "Application") for iPhone that was created by Vidus6 (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Information Collection and Use

Steno is designed to keep your data on your device. You do not need to create an account, and we do not ask for your email, name, or phone number to use the app. When you use the Application, we may collect:

  • Your recordings, imported text, and photos. Audio you record and any text or images you import are stored only on your device. To create your transcript, summary, key points, flashcards, quiz, and chat answers, this content is sent securely to our AI provider (see "Third Party Access") for processing and the result is returned to your device.
  • An optional display name, if you choose to enter one during onboarding. It is stored on your device and used only to personalize the app (for example, your greeting).
  • Anonymous usage and diagnostic data, such as app-open events, feature usage, device model, operating system version, app version, and a randomly generated device identifier — used to understand how the Application is used and to protect it from abuse.
  • Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address and standard technical information transmitted automatically when the app communicates with our service providers.

The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing. Steno's core features are powered by AI. When you record audio or import text or images, that content is transmitted securely to Google's generative AI models (Gemini) through Firebase AI in order to produce your transcript, summary, flashcards, quiz, translations, and chat responses. This processing happens only to deliver the feature you requested. The Service Provider does not operate its own servers that store your recordings or notes — your notes live on your device. Google's handling of data sent to its AI services is governed by Google's own privacy policy and terms. The Service Provider may use anonymous, aggregated information to improve the Application. Because we do not collect your contact details, we do not send you marketing email.

Third Party Access

The Application uses a small number of third-party services, each with its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
  • when they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  • with their trusted service providers who work on their behalf, do not have an independent use of the information disclosed to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.

Steno does not display third-party advertising and does not sell your personal information.

Opt-Out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling it. Because your recordings and notes are stored on your device, uninstalling the app removes them. You can also delete individual notes at any time from within the app.

Data Retention Policy

Your recordings and notes are retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the Application. Content sent to our AI provider is processed to return your result and is not stored by the Service Provider. If you'd like to ask a question about your data, please contact us at contact@vidus6.com and we will respond in a reasonable time.

Children

The Service Provider does not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. The Application does not address anyone under the age of 13. If the Service Provider discovers that a child under 13 has provided personal information, the Service Provider will delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact the Service Provider (contact@vidus6.com) so that the necessary actions can be taken.

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Data transmitted to our AI and service providers is sent over encrypted connections, and app requests are protected with app-integrity verification (App Check).

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes by updating this page. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

This privacy policy is effective as of 2026-07-19.

By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us.
